Night Blooming Flowers

Many flowers close when the sun goes down or the temperature drops, however, there are some flowers that bloom at night. Night-blooming flowers can reflect the moonlight and are often much more fragrant than those that bloom during the day. One of the reasons flowers that bloom at night is often more scented is that they need to attract nocturnal pollinators that must find them in the dark. This is also why most night bloomers have white flowers that reflect light and are more apparent at night.

Meaning of 'flowers bloom at night'

‘Flowers that bloom at night’ could be a metaphor for personal awakening and realization of the self during the dark. This phrase refers to the beauty and talent that can be discovered from spending time in solitude and looking within.

Theory

Dark Night of the Soul / Dark Night Experience

The term “Dark Night of the Soul” was first coined by the mystic St John of the Cross and refers to those times in our lives when we feel stuck, empty, stressed, confused or traumatized. It refers to a stage in personal development when a person undergoes a difficult and significant transition to a more profound understanding of life. During the dark night of the soul, a person can struggle with their sense of meaning in the world. It can either make us feel lost and helpless, or it can activate previously unseen abilities and resources in us.

Case Studies

The Art of Bloom

“The Art of Bloom” is a multisensory installation that includes a room that changes color with body temperature. A canopy of white flowers hovers overhead, while sensors detect a visitor’s body temperature, causing lights in the floor and ceiling to change color and send white vellum petals—a simulation of the actual flowers above—drifting downward. The flowers are real while the floor colors are virtual.

MyBloom: an expression of olfactive extimacy

Many people's lives have become increasingly focused on self-love, mindfulness, and slowing down, but the prestige fragrance industry has yet to capitalize on this trend. MyBloom is an exciting new creative idea that translates these values into an olfactory experience. MyBloom helps our customers to meet the demand for more authentic fragrances that consumers can genuinely connect with.

Consumers transform their innermost thoughts into fragrances, while perfumers create genuine scents, each with its own personal tale. These scents are not exactly linked to specific olfactive families as we know them, instead, they’re linked to light, vibrations, and textures.

PULSE: An Installation Close To Our Hearts

Pulse is an interactive installation that changes color in response to your heartbeat. We only think about our heartbeat when we're scared, furious, or enthusiastic, or when we're at the doctor for a checkup. The heartbeat is a fascinating input because of its link with deep emotion. Pulse reveals what's on the inside, transforming an internal rhythm into a light animation show. A pedestal in front of Pulse has a glowing sensor that reads a participant’s heartbeat. As the sculpture displays begins to pulsate, it also charges up with every beat. The sculpture grows in complexity and intensity with each person's heartbeat, culminating in a bright yellow show.
